Omniva, SmartPost and DPD parcel machines in a Shopify store

Omniva, Itella SmartPost and DPD are the three locker networks Estonian buyers expect at checkout. Here is how to wire them into Shopify: a map-based locker picker, one-click label printing, sensible shipping rates and the mistakes that quietly eat conversion.

Omniva, SmartPost and DPD parcel machines in a Shopify store

Shipping in an Estonian online store is deceptively simple: the buyer wants a parcel machine. Omniva, Itella SmartPost and DPD are the three locker networks Estonian shoppers look for at checkout by default — and when none of them shows up, the cart is often simply abandoned. A locker is cheap, open around the clock and sits next to home or work; courier delivery to the door is the exception here, not the rule. Shopify does not know Estonian parcel machines out of the box, but integrations exist — both the carriers' own modules and local connector apps that bring several networks into checkout at once. Here is how to build the whole flow properly.

Why lockers are non-negotiable

The delivery step is part of the buying decision, not a logistics detail. An Estonian shopper compares your checkout against habit: if the familiar locker option is missing, doubt creeps in — is this store even local, and will collecting the parcel be convenient? Together the three networks cover practically the whole country, and every buyer has a favourite: one passes an Omniva locker on the way home, another uses the SmartPost machine at the shopping centre, a third trusts the DPD point next to the office. The more networks your checkout offers, the more likely each visitor finds a spot that suits them. Offering all three is a small effort with a measurable conversion payoff — in our projects its effect shows up within the first month of orders.

How the integration works

There are two routes: the carrier's own Shopify module, or an Estonian connector app that covers several networks with one setup. The app's name matters less than what it can do at checkout. A well-configured store works like this: the buyer picks parcel machine as the delivery method, then chooses the nearest point from a map or searchable list; the choice is saved onto the order; the warehouse prints the label straight from the order view; and the tracking code travels to the customer automatically. If any link is missing — say, locker selection happens in a free-text field like “write your preferred machine in the comments” — both the buyer's convenience and half the point of automation are gone.

The three networks side by side

Labels printed from the app on the order printed from the app on the order labels and manifests from the app

Labels and the fulfillment flow

The real payoff of locker delivery shows up on the fulfillment side. Configured properly, the flow runs itself: an order arrives, the app sends the data to the carrier's system, and a printable label comes back with a tracking code that reaches the customer through Shopify's own notifications. You stick the label on, drop the parcel at a machine or hand it to the courier — nobody retypes anything. If labels are instead copy-pasted into the carrier's self-service portal, ten orders eat half an hour, and every retyped line risks sending a parcel to the wrong locker.

Pricing delivery: flat or by weight

From the merchant's side there are two sensible pricing logics. A flat rate — say €3 to any locker and free shipping from €50 — is clear for the buyer and easy to manage; for most smaller stores it is the right starting point. Weight-based rates earn their keep when the catalogue mixes light and heavy goods, so a pillowcase buyer stops subsidising furniture freight — but they only work if every product in Shopify has a correct weight. And the free-shipping threshold is the most effective average-order-value lever in Estonian stores: set it slightly above your current average basket.

Mistakes we keep seeing

  • Only one network at checkout — part of your audience is looking specifically for their favourite.
  • A locker list without search: a dropdown of hundreds of points is torture on mobile.
  • Product weights never entered, so weight-based rates lie or the carrier sends a corrective invoice later.
  • Labels printed manually although the app would do it in one click.
  • No test order — the first real customer finds the bug for you.

Parcel machine integration is the kind of work where details decide the outcome: the locker picker must be smooth, labels one click away and rates honest.
