Pricing & timeline
How much does building a Shopify store cost?
A theme-based store starts at €4,500 and covers design setup, the product catalog, payments and shipping configuration. A fully custom build starts at €15,000. The final price depends on catalog size, integrations and the amount of custom design — you get an exact quote after a short scoping call.
How long does it take to launch a store?
A typical theme-based project takes 2–4 weeks, a custom build 4–8 weeks. The biggest schedule variables are content readiness (product photos, copy) and the number of integrations. Roughly a third of the timeline goes into testing and polish.
What are Shopify’s own monthly fees and extra costs?
Shopify Basic costs about €27/month with annual billing; larger stores use the Grow or Advanced plans. On top of that come payment processing fees (typically 1–2% plus a small fixed fee per transaction) and app subscriptions, usually €0–100/month. The only other cost is your domain — the SSL certificate is included.
Do I need maintenance after launch, and what does it cost?
A store keeps running without maintenance, but it only grows when someone keeps improving it. Our maintenance plans start at €1,250/month and include development hours, speed and SEO monitoring, and app updates. One-off work is billed at €150/h.
Choosing a platform
Shopify or WooCommerce — which fits an Estonian store?
WooCommerce is flexible but needs its own server, security patching and constant technical upkeep. On Shopify, hosting, security and PCI compliance are the platform’s job, and the store scales without you thinking about infrastructure. Unless you have your own developer, Shopify is almost always cheaper to own — the costs are predictable.
Does Shopify suit a store selling only to Estonia?
Yes. An Estonian-language storefront, bank links, Omniva and SmartPost parcel machines and euro pricing are all standard builds on Shopify. A small domestic store runs fine on the Basic plan with well-chosen apps, and expanding abroad later never requires a platform change.
How does Shopify differ from Voog and Shoproller?
Voog and Shoproller are Estonian platforms that suit a simple starter store. Shopify’s advantage is scale: thousands of apps, a global developer ecosystem, Shopify Payments, multi-language support and unlimited customization through Liquid and the API. If you plan to grow or sell beyond Estonia, Shopify gives you far more headroom.
Can I manage the store myself afterwards?
Yes — the Shopify admin is built for exactly that: products, orders, campaigns and discount codes are day-to-day tasks for the store owner. At handover we run a training session and leave written guides; you only need a developer for bigger changes.
Payments
Can a Shopify store offer Estonian bank links?
Yes — through Montonio or Maksekeskus you can add the bank links of every major Estonian bank (Swedbank, SEB, LHV, Coop Pank and others) to the checkout. Bank links are still the most familiar way for Estonian shoppers to pay, so we recommend always enabling them.
Montonio, Maksekeskus or Shopify Payments — which to pick?
Shopify Payments is now available in Estonia, including 3D Secure, and covers card payments without a separate contract — the old claim that an external provider is mandatory is outdated. For bank links and installments, add Montonio or Maksekeskus. In practice a combination works best: Shopify Payments for cards plus Montonio or Maksekeskus for bank links.
Can I offer installment payments?
Yes — installment and buy-now-pay-later options can be added through providers such as Montonio, ESTO or Inbank. Installments visibly lift the average order value on higher-priced products; we configure the integration as part of the checkout setup.
Shipping
How do I add Omniva, SmartPost and DPD parcel machines?
Parcel machines are added through a Shopify app that syncs the machine list and prints shipping labels straight from the order view. We configure rates by zone (for example free shipping above a chosen threshold) and can run several carriers side by side.
Can customers pick the nearest parcel machine on a map at checkout?
Yes — we use apps that show the machine selection as a dropdown or a map view directly in the checkout. The chosen machine is passed to the order and the shipping label automatically, with no manual copying.
Language & localization
Can the store and checkout be fully in Estonian?
Yes — we translate the theme, the checkout, notification emails and even app-rendered texts into Estonian. On the Estonian market this is a matter of trust: an English-only checkout is one of the most common reasons carts get abandoned.
Can the store be multilingual (ET/EN/RU) and multi-currency?
Yes — Shopify supports a multilingual storefront (for example ET/EN/RU) and Shopify Markets can present prices in different currencies. We manage translations with a translation app and set up the URL structure (such as /en and /ru) so Google indexes each language version separately.
Can I use my own .ee domain?
Yes — your .ee (or any other) domain is connected to Shopify through DNS settings, and the SSL certificate is issued automatically and free of charge. The domain stays in your ownership at your current registrar, and we set up 301 redirects from your old store’s addresses.
Tax & legal
When does OSS apply, and what is the €10,000 threshold?
Once your cross-border sales to EU consumers exceed €10,000 per year (all EU distance sales combined), you must charge the buyer’s local VAT and report it through the One Stop Shop (OSS). Below the threshold you may keep charging Estonian VAT. We configure the correct per-country tax rates in Shopify so the transition is painless.
How does B2B selling to EU companies work (0% reverse charge)?
An EU business customer with a valid VAT number buys at 0% VAT — the buyer accounts for the tax in their own country under the reverse charge mechanism. In Shopify we set up VAT number validation (VIES) and the exemption logic so invoices and returns come out correct.
Which terms of sale and withdrawal rights (14 days) apply to a store?
An Estonian online store must publish clear terms of sale, and consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal starting from delivery. From 19 June 2026, an EU requirement adds a clearly visible „withdrawal button“ for cancelling contracts concluded online. We build the terms pages and checkout references correctly; the legal wording itself should come from your lawyer.
Migration
Will I lose my Google rankings when switching platforms?
No — not if the migration is done properly. We map every old URL, set up 301 redirects, preserve page titles, descriptions and content, and submit a fresh sitemap to Google. Expect a small fluctuation for a couple of weeks, after which rankings recover — often with a bonus from the faster site.
