How much does an online store cost in Estonia? (2026 prices)

Template kit, freelancer, agency or custom build? An honest look at Estonian online store prices in 2026 — what each band actually includes, what drives the final number, and why the cheapest option can end up the most expensive.

How much does an online store cost in Estonia? (2026 prices)

"How much does an online store cost?" is the first question every founder asks — and the honest answer sounds useless at first: anywhere from €300 to well over €20,000. That range doesn't mean someone is lying. It means the same phrase covers very different things: a template switched on in one evening, or several months of engineering. Here is an honest map of the Estonian market in 2026 — what each price band actually buys, what moves the final number, and when the cheap option quietly becomes the expensive one.

Price bands in the Estonian market, 2026

Tier Typical price What it usually means
Template kit store €300–1,000 a standard theme, minimal customisation, much of the work left to you
Freelancer €1,500–4,000 a customised theme and basic setup, everything depends on one person
Typical agency €2,000–6,000 a team and a process, theme plus customisations, project management
Custom build €6,000–20,000+ bespoke design and features, built for growth

None of these tiers is wrong in itself. A template kit is a perfectly sensible way to test an idea, and a good freelancer can be the best value on the market — as long as they stay available. A store that feeds a business, on the other hand, lives or dies by how well checkout, payments and shipping work together. Trouble starts when the expectations come from one band and the budget from another.

What actually drives the price

Four things move the total more than anything else. Design: adapting a theme and drawing a bespoke interface are different worlds of effort. Integrations: bank links, couriers and accounting software all have to talk to each other — payments alone deserve their own article, which you'll find in our Estonian payment gateways comparison. Migration: if the store already runs on another platform, products, customers and orders must move across without losing Google rankings — a discipline of its own, covered by our Shopify migration service. And content: product descriptions, photos and translations often eat more hours than the technology itself.

Total cost of ownership: what the quote leaves out

The build price is only the first line. The platform takes its share — Shopify Basic runs at roughly €27 a month on annual billing, with an Advanced tier for bigger stores. Apps each add a subscription of their own. And someone has to update, fix and improve the store after launch: a professional maintenance retainer starts at €1,250 a month with us, while smaller stores cover the same work with their own evenings. That time is a cost too — it just never arrives as an invoice. When comparing quotes, compare three years of ownership, not the first bill.

When cheap gets expensive

The pattern we see most often: a store built for a few hundred euros runs fine for a season, then it turns out the checkout has no bank links, the mobile view is broken and a pile of apps has made every page slow. A year later everything is rebuilt from scratch — and paid for twice. A cheap store is not a mistake if you know you are buying a temporary solution. The mistake is expecting a permanent result from a temporary one.

Where we sit, and why

To be honest in both directions: our theme-based Shopify store or redesign starts at €4,500 and ships in 2–4 weeks; a custom build starts at €15,000 and takes 4–8 weeks; hourly work is billed at €150/hour. That is the premium end of the market, deliberately: the price includes conversion-focused design, properly configured payments and shipping, migration without SEO losses and a tested store — not just an installed theme. And if your budget today is a few hundred euros, we'll say that straight too: start with a template, grow, and come back when the store earns money. The full packages are on our pricing page.

If you want to work out which band your store actually belongs in before committing, have a look at our store development service and ask for a quote where every line is itemised. Then you are comparing substance, not just totals.
